This summer of 2014 he will be living off the land at the Zollverein UNESCO-World Heritage Site as part of the project ‘The Good life’. During a four week period he will attempt to live without consuming gas or electricity, essentially living off the grid: Foraging, collecting water, building a shelter and living within a survival situation. Equipped with a minimum of tools, he will have to learn to utilize and understand his immediate environment to achieve a sustainable level of autonomy and survival.
The work is partly a performance, partly an experiment, partly a kind of training exercise (in lieu of a worst-case-scenario situation) and on some levels a cri de coeur.

Steven Emmanuel, born 1982 in North Wales, England, lives and works in Nürnberg and London and is RWE fellow.
