Chronicle

Part of the ETF! finale were three original Litfaßsäulen, old berlin advertisement collumns.. as a documentation.

Hundreds of pictures were browsed – all artists and all venues found a place on the historical advertising tubes – a charming chronicle that documents and rounds off the wealth of encounters and rounds up this special journey.

Design and realization Ina Neubert.

The collumns at Uferhallen

Statements of ETF! artists. Néle-Marie Gräber has collected them and shaped them into a piece of art work.

Ursula Schulz-Dornburg

To avert the climate catastrophe is a cultural question. For this we need a new aesthetic, the aesthetic of global survival. Art that does not limit itself to aestheticizing the problems or painting doomsday scenarios, but uses its communicative abilities to enable society to translate the findings of science into active sustainable action, is the key.

Hermann Josef Hack

As co-curator of the exhibition realised in 2013 at the Memorial da America Latina in São Paulo, it was a great honour and pleasure for me to cooperate with the exhibition examples to follow!expeditions in aesthetics and sustainability. Ten years ago, the topic and the debate were not as widespread as they are today, so it was very important to bring the exhibition to Brazil.
Great was also the chance to integrate local artists like Marlene Almeida, Sonia Guggisberg, Shirley Paes Leme, James Kudo and José De Quadros in this global discussion through their participation.

What is it that we transport through words and pictures? What touches us emotionally, what connects us and separates us?
We need different perceptions to create truly new ideas to overcome the limits of our mind.

Ida Möller, Renate U. Schürmeyer

I feel that people have forgotten, forgotten long ago that their origin is natural.

Dina Shenhav, The end of the forest

“Nature” is found not in a distant forest or remote geography, but in a direct everyday relationship with the world we inhabit – as an ecological intimacy and not a remote “other.”

Ravi Agarwal, Have you seen the flowers on the river?

Is hybridisation a trivialisation of colonialism?
…speaking of natural history research?

The Solar Powered Electric Chair […] reflects the direction our global society will continue to develop if we are not careful about realigning our priorities […] to raise awareness that the unavoidable transition to renewable energies will not turn into the next wave of elitist monopolies exploiting the masses, but will be developed to serve the needs of the many. (2011)

Davis Smithson, Solar Powered Electric Chair

I wanted to build a bridge over the Dead Sea and worked super hard in this direction.

Sigalit Landau, DeadSee, 2005 / Hopes, 2013

But if time is no pure quantity, it has to be filled qualitatively. In other words: because of its austerity lived time has an explicitly dimension of improvised savoir-vivre.

Gustavo Romano, The time notes project

Artist Collective SCHAUM, Surrogate

Ecology (from Greek: oikos, “house” or “living relations”; logos, “study of”) is the scientific study of the distributions, abundance, share affects and relations of organisms and complex structures and their interactions with each other in an common environment.

When will we be done raising awareness?

Swaantje Güntzel

The earth keeps getting more fucked up, so we are not closer to an answer. But we have increased clarity about the problem, which is prioritizing money over our future.

Mike Bonanno / The yes men

Plastic bags are like every other man made material. We make them by manipulating and pulling nature. We create something, then we deal with it irresponsibly, and then we blame the thing we created. The plastic bag is the black sheep of our culture, blamed for so many of our environmental problems.

Dodi Reifenberg, Green-Bag-Movement

To be continued!

See the space between the trees and at the same time be those trees!

Christine Henry

Art is enlightenment, art thinks in the form of images, art helps us to really look and see how things stand with us and with nature.

Cornelia Hesse-Honegger, Betraying Nature

Here, where our surroundings are increasingly flooded by industrial products that seem equally perfect and monotonous, and people make themselves dependent on technology they don´t understand anymore, the ability to provide to one´s basic needs ourself is getting increasingly lost.Everybody wears shoes, but who can still sew them?

Christian Kuhtz, DIY Construction

Understanding our place in the world by adopting an EcoCentric approach with humility towards the environment as a leading value.

Tagit Klimor, Depletion / Urban “Siach”

After 13 years I realize it’s never too early, nor too late, to do this work. Becoming sustainable requires commitment and creativity on an everyday basis, it is an ongoing practice.

Lucia Monge, Plantón móvil

We cut the ground from under our own feet.

Maria Vedder, Susurrus

Today, whenever I stick my waste paper in the slot of the waste paper container of the Green Dot in Germany, an operation, which always seemed a little bit absurd to me, I think of the used paper shop on Mercato in Addis Abeba, where we bought one kilo of old newspaper.
