Manish Nai
untitled, 2012
Installation | Burlap, corrugated carton, newspaper, cloth | Different measures, installation dimensions variable
Manish Nai was always fascinated by walls and their textures. He observes gutters, canal walls, light plaster patches on grey cement, trickles of rust from drainpipes, peeling paint and creates echoes of these objects and surfaces in his work. Although reductive and contemplative in nature, his works made of jute thread, newspaper, foam or burlap reference the experience of Mumbai and its parallel sites of construction and decay.
