Today’s fungal biotechnology researches how the metabolic potential of fungi can be harnessed for a sustainable and recyclable bioeconomy. Soon not only medicines, enzymes and biofuels will be produced with mushrooms, but also clothing, furniture and even houses. How this could work and which bio-based scenarios for possible living and living environments of the future with and through fungi seem possible to us today is the subject of MY-CO PLACE.
MY-CO PLACE MY-CO PLACE is a temporary meeting place in the heart of Berlin that places mushrooms and mushroom materials at the center of a debate about future ways of building and living. From May 12 to July 31, 2023, the BHROX Bauhaus reuse – a city laboratory for transdisciplinary education, research and participation in the middle of Ernst-Reuter-Platz – will be transformed into a mushroom place.
Here, in MY-CO PLACE, visitors can come into direct contact with the microscopically small but macroscopically experienceable world of mushrooms. This place will be a learning station, exhibition space and discussion platform in equal measure, in which sustainable living and living with and through mushrooms can be experienced, thought through and understood.
MY-CO PLACE is a transdisciplinary real laboratory by Prof. Very Meyer (TU Berlin) and Prof. Sven Pfeiffer (Hochschule Bochum) and, as part of StadtManufaktur Berlin, enables scientists, students and partners from culture, civil society, Economy and politics. In lectures, workshops, seminars and teaching projects, potentials and utopias for a sustainably built environment are discussed together and solution scenarios for the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region are developed collaboratively.
